Local Descriptionfrontispiece, 11 plates, original blue cloth. DescriptionAn engaging account of the Orkney pirate John Gow (1698?-1725) who operated successfully off the Iberian peninsular. He was eventually captured on the Orkney Islands in 1725, by an ancestor of the author of this book, and hanged in June the same year. Daniel Defoe wrote a fictional account of him and he was the model for captain Cleveland in The Pirate by Walter Scott. An unusual and unique piece of pirate lore. |
