Carl Bock was a Norwegian natural scientist whose journeys to northern Thailand and Laos had the support of H.M. King Chulalongkorn. This text is an account of the people with whom he travelled, and an exploration of the personality of a typical 19th-century traveller. Having written a memorable account of his journey to Borneo and Sumatra, Carl Bock made another remarkable expedition to the Southeast Asian Mainland.
