Burnet (1643-1715) was a Scottish historian and philosopher, later Bishop of Salisbury. He spanned the reigns of Charles II (to whom the book is dedicated), through to Queen Anne, preaching at the coronation of William in 1689. He is noted for his History of the Reformation of the Church of England published between 1679 and 1715. This work written at the restoration includes previously unpublished 'letters, instructions and other papers, written by King Charles the I'. A half title page reads The History of the Church and State of Scotland. The II. Part. The memoires are complete in themselves.
