Title in red & black (damaged on outer side with a little loss of text), next leaf top quarter torn away with loss of text. 19th Century half calf & marbled boards. Early Greek testament with 88 pages of preparatory text and commentary in Latin, a folding map of Jerusalem and plan of the Temple, and two maps, of the Eastern Mediterranean and of Palestine. The author, Etienne de Courcelles (in Latin Stephanus Curcellaeus; 1586-1659) was a Greek scholar and translator (and personal friend of Descartes) who first published this Greek New Testament in 1658.   Recorded in World Cat. An attractive binding and lovely maps, that of Jerusalem being particularly fascinating.
