Eighteen Years in the Khyber

Warburton (1842 - 1899), Anglo-Indian by birth, went to India in the British Army first in 1862, and after service in the Abyssinia campaign, returned in 1869. He was stationed in the Punjab and during the Afghan campaign was appointed Political Officer for the Khyber in 1879, holding that position for 18 years. He served on the frontier for the rest of his career and wrote his memoirs on his final return to England, these being published just after his death.
